Question: Name one thing that drives direct medical costs, productivity, worker’s compensation claims, disability costs, worker replacement costs, absenteeism, presenteeism, and often quality. Answer: Health Status. A healthy organization has a significant competitive advantage today by successfully managing many costs (which are under the employer’s control ) and maximizing productivity. Employers that promote and support a healthy culture also gain the benefits of a loyal, happy, workforce that accepts the personal responsibility for their health status and are often looked upon as a “…place I want to work!”. Human capital is any organization’s most expensive and most important asset. Employers who invest in their workforce’s health and wellness gain the competitive advantage they need to grow in good times and survive the bad times.
